President Lagos will opening the "Megapuerto"

With the presence of Chilean President of the Republic, Mr. Ricardo Lagos, the Codelco filial, "Complejo Portuario de Mejillones (CPM)" and "Compañía Portuaria Angamos" -composed by Belfi y Ultraport- will make ceremony of opening of the new port, that started operations in this place, and represented an investment of 121 millions dollars.

According to information, the grand opening will be the 28th, in a ceremony with the presence of Mining Ministry, Alfonso Dulanto and the executive president of Codelco, Juan Villarzú, in addition to representatives of public, private and regional sector.....

40% progress in Port Complex

A 40 per cent progress have the building of port complex in Mejillones, according to information of Mr. Jorge Taboada, general manager of CPM, a Codelco company, who emphasizes also the importance of terminal in the great objective to consolidate Antofagasta as commercial axis with Asia-Pacific nations. 

Along with give details of construction, pile installation, pile sheets and earth filling, the executive say that progress will allow the new port begin to operate in October next year, so the region will have in position to offer a latest generation port.

15% progress in Megapuerto Works

The construction of Megapuerto in Mejillones has an 15% progress, where the first part of project has to be finish on October next year.

The project represent a 121 million U.S. Dollars investment and it is in charge of  Belfi-Ultramar consortium. The concession contract it is for 30 years and include financing, design, construction and operation of "terminal 1" of "Complejo Portuario Mejillones (CPM)", with a major option  to development of "terminal 2" located 500 meters north of actual under construction.

The port considers a terminal for shipping metallic cupper and general cargo, initially with 3 berth sites, two with 14 meters minimum deep and third one with 12 meters deep. The transfer capacity is 2 millions ton/year and capacity to receive 50,000 ton ships (225 meters long and 12.5 meters high).

Belfi wins construction of new Copiapó's Airport

SANTIAGO.- The Chilean Company Belfi wins the concession for construction of a new airport in Chile in the "Región de Atacama",  968 kilometers north of Santiago, its inform today Minister of Publics Works.

The Atacama's regional airport, with an investment of 25 millions dollars, will have a 2.200 meters runway and capacity for 4 Airbus-320 planes.

Others consortiums did compete with Constructora Belfi to win the project, e.g. Mendez Júnior & Asociados, Belsaco-Arauco y Icafal-Tecsa-IDC.

The Airport concession, replacing the present Chamonate Airport in Copiapó, will have a duration of 20 years and will include the start up of several commercial services in relation to air companies, besides parking places, restaurants and meeting rooms.

The estimated passenger demand with the start up of the Atacama airport will increase in north of Chile from 110.000 to 240.000 annual passengers between 2001 and 2010.

Millions Invest Mejillones

It has been difficult for the port complex to close contracts with mining companies. Up to date there is only contract with Codelco.

An investment of US$ 125 millions will demand the construction of the first terminal of port complex in Mejillones, whose works it will begin within April and May, at completion of the engineering studies and environmental requirements.

This terminal will have a 2,5 millions tons yearly capacity, It will specialize in mining products movements and his construction it will take 20 months.

Punta Arenas with New Airport for 2002

This Project will demand an investment of more than US$ 9 millions.

PUNTA ARENAS (Sofanor Cerpa).- In the second fifteenth of september it will begin the construction of the new terminal building of the International Airport "Presidente Carlos Ibáñez del Campo" in Punta Arenas, 21 kilometers north of this city.

This will be the first public work made under the concession system in Magallanes.

The adjudication was made to society "Consorcio Austral", group composed by Constructora Belfi, Lan Chile, "Las Américas Administradora de Fondos de Inversión" and "CBM PRIME, Administradora de Fondos de Inversión". The total investment of the work will be US$ 9,5 millions. The concession will be for a period of eight and a half years.

The present terminal has an area of 2.400 square meters and was built on 1959.

It will have an infrastructure based on concrete and steel structures in two levels, with 6.060 square meters of building.

It will can to attend 500 passengers simultaneously.

The project also includes three baggage belt conveyors, offices for the airlines other services for the passengers. Moreover, a car parking for 260 vehicles, sewage treatment plants, electrical substation, two new lighting towers for the landing strip, elevators for the public.

Highway concession in Santiago

The project is one of urban development of greatest highway and real state impact in the Metropolitan Region. It include the construction of the Norte-Sur and General Velásquez axis going across 13 municipalities in Santiago.

Offering US$ 111,7 millions (3.952.500 UF) to State to obtain the concession for 30 years of the new Norte-Sur highway axis of the Metropolitan Region, the Consortium "Autopista Norte-Sur" win the construction and operation of this highway project which will demand an investment of US$ 440 millions. 

This way, the consortium formed by the spanish group Dragados (with 48 %), the swedish Skanska (48 %) and the chilean construction companies Belfi and Brotec (4 %), will have to spend a total of US$ 551,7 millions.

Fearless Offer of Sweden-Spanish Group win Norte-Sur Axis

Consortium assumed 100% of the business risks and it offer the higher payment for existing infrastructure.

The illusioned executives of the three participating consortium to win the concession of the Norte-Sur System did arrived to the auditory of the Pubic Works Ministry with the only purpose to win the greatest project, at least in money, available in the schedule of chilean concessions.

Because to rebuild 40 kilometers of the "Ruta Panamericana" going across 13 municipalities of the Metropolitan Region, besides another 21 km of the General Velásquez Avenue, it is not a little thing.

The estimated amount of investment is US$440 millions, amount that the private company will recover collecting toll along 30 years.

Thanks to an offer rated as "surprising" and "fearless", the consortium "Autopista Norte-Sur S.A." (formed by swedish, spanish and chilean companies) did win the bid. In relation to winner consortium - Grupo Dragados (48%), Skanska Projektueckling & Fastigheter (48%), Belfi and Brotec (4%)-. the Minister of Transport & Publics Works, Carlos Cruz, did qualify the high bid of this group like a plain signal of trust in chilean economy.
